What is an articulation disorder?
An articulation disorder falls under the umbrella term Speech Sound Disorder which refers to any difficulty with the “perception, motor production, or phonological representation of speech sounds and speech segments” (ASHA, n.d.).
An articulation disorder refers to the inability to correctly produce speech sounds (phonemes) due to incorrect placement, timing, speed, or pressure of the articulators (tongue, teeth, lips, throat).
